Vantage Point at Alowyn Gardens

Hi all,

I recently decided to participate in a Pinterest project called #VantagePoint put together by Light, a compact camera maker. I have chosen to write about my favorite photography location, and how my equipment plays a part in how I photograph. Well it was easy for me to choose Alowyn Gardens as my favorite photography location. I am a regular visitor there for multiple reasons. Firstly it is such a peaceful place, with beautiful gardens. Very relaxing. Secondly, there is always something new to photograph. No matter how many times I go, I always find something inspirational.

The camera I use is a Sony RX100. This is a fixed lens compact camera, with full manual functionality. I chose this camera because it allowed me full control of my settings, has an excellent aperture available of 1.8, and is compact. I can easily take it with me.

Full control of the settings in my camera is important to me, as I like to take close up macro shots of flowers and insects, so shutter speed and aperture is very important to get the shot just right.

Here are some of the photos from my recent visit to Alowyn Gardens, as you can see I was excited the insects were out!

It was a lot of fun writing this #VantagePoint post, and I must say I am interested in their cameras given they too are compact! I look forward to finding out more about them soon.

Cheers, Andrew

Otway Herbs Nursery and Cottage Gardens

Hi all,

On our last day in Apollo Bay, we visited Otway Herbs Nursery and Cottage Gardens. A lovely garden nestled at the top of quite a large mountain. This is their private home and backyard. We had a lovely chat with one of the owners, and purchased some nice plants.

The gardens can be a little steep, so you need good mobility! Very lovely though. I found some insects to photograph too, so was extra special 🙂

Hi all,

Last weekend I visited the Tibetan Buddhist Society in Yuroke, Spring Open day. I found many insects to photograph whilst there, I hope you enjoy!

Bridal Veil Falls, New Zealand

Hi everyone,

Recently on our trip to the North Island of New Zealand, I visited Bridal Veil Falls. It is a stunning waterfall. 55m single drop, the sheer force coming over the ledge was amazing! Well worth a visit if you are heading over to the North Island.

I was very lucky to catch a rainbow through the spray of the water!

Orange Butterfly

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while, sorry for being so quiet on my blog. I have too busy taking photos in New Zealand 🙂

Today I wanted to share some photos of butterflies we found in the Hamilton Gardens. These gardens are stunning, so more photos to come.

These butterflies were flying about the gardens in the gorgeous spring weather. Thankfully they stopped on some leaves long enough for me to get some good photos!

Enjoy!

Spring has sprung in Melbourne!

Hi all,

Well Spring has Sprung in Melbourne and the insects and flowers are out in force – so I joined them with my camera!!

Earlier this year we planted a lot of flowering plants in our garden to attract the insects, yes I had an ulterior photography motive! Yesterday morning the sun was shining, the flowers were out and the bees were pollinating! So I took the opportunity to get some photos.

Insects at Lambley Nursery

Hi all,

One of the benefits of beautiful flowering gardens like Lambley Nursery are the insects it attracts. I added some insect photos in my previous post from Lambley, but saved these for a separate post as they are my favourites!

Gardens at Lambley Nursery

Hi all,

Recently I visited Lambley Nursery in Ascot, just past Ballarat in Victoria. It takes approximately 2 hours from Melbourne by car. This is a gorgeous nursery specialising in drought tolerant plants. I must say, many of the plants are stunning! Even in Autumn, flowers everywhere! My favourite by far was the Salvia. We purchased quite a few plants too, mostly Salvia’s, so hopefully my garden will look this good sometime!

Damselfly

Hi all,

I spotted this damselfly and beetle yesterday whilst looking at some gorgeous gardens. I was very excited to find the damselfly, I have been trying to take a photo of a dragonfly for for a long time but found this instead!
